We’re launching the next Speaker Bootcamp!

At Essex Recovery Foundation, we want to make recovery visible! We believe that by sharing our experiences of recovery, we can begin to challenge perceptions, destigmatise addiction, and ultimately support more people to get the help they need to achieve recovery.

To make this happen, we enlisted the help of Marie Edmunds, the founder of the Aspirations Project in Southend, who could support us in helping people to feel confident and proud to share their stories. At the end of last year, we launched our Speaker Bootcamps with 12 incredible people from the recovery community in Essex.

Once a week, for six weeks, this group of people came together with Marie to start to learn more about what it means to share their story and to start to build their confidence to talk openly about their experiences of addiction and recovery in a safe but impactful way.

The group graduated from our Speaker Bootcamp in November 2023 and have since formed a voluntary group called: Voices of Recovery. Together, they are sharing their stories to transform perceptions of addiction and to provide hope and motivation to others.

Now, we are excited to announce that our next Speaker Bootcamp will commence on May 21st!

The course will run every Tuesday (10:30am-3pm) for six weeks. The first five weeks will be held in Basildon and the final session will take place in Southend where our speakers will have an opportunity to present for the first time in front of an audience.

Once you’ve graduated, you will be invited to join the Voices of Recovery team and support their important mission to make recovery visible in Essex.

If this is something you would be interested in, please contact jo@essexrecoveryfoundation.org who will arrange a quick chat to run you through the process and answer any of your questions. We really look forward to you joining our Speaker Bootcamp.
