STARS update

We have fantastic news from STARS! We will soon be piloting the low threshold opioid management prescribing, mainly removing more barriers to access the services for service users who struggle to get quickly into the opioid management programme.

All the four STARS treatment hubs are almost 100% full capacity and we are ready to further put in place recovery focussed interventions towards enhancing the quality of life of our service users and reducing the stigmatisation and health inequalities face regularly by service users.

We are updating our physical health clinics to signpost service users to GPs more quickly for co-existing identified physical health problems, in some cases, we proactively call the GP surgeries on behalf of service users.

Our consultant Psychiatrist , Dr Edwin Ugoh is the consultant psychiatrist in charge of the only East of England medical managed detoxification unit in a NHS trust with access to urgent medical support if needed. This unit had been nominated for Essex Partnership NHS Trust quality awards in more than one category for the excellent clinical interventions that has positively impacted so many service users with complex presentation of addiction and mental health. Service users can contact Open Road and ARC for more information on how to access this service.

Dr Edwin Ugoh is involve with clinicians  in Oxford and Cambridge on a research proposal to use Deep Brain stimulation for managing treatment resistant addictive behaviour, more information of this will be made available soon if the proposal is approved.
